Our container is shipped by sea from the UK to the main Kenyan port of Mombasa, and then taken by road about 30 km south to Ukunda, where our communities are located. For now.
The container is loaded in the UK by our many volunteers. When we buy the 40ft container we are given three free hours to load it. The container is kept on the lorry and many, many hands are needed to load it as fast as possible. You need a bit of muscle here, but we also need help in looking after our volunteers, so if you can make the tea or bacon sandwiches and would be free in one day in June please contact us.
We have learnt a lot about the shipping process from the UK to Kenya and how to successfully negotiate the rules and regulations for doing this. Here is what we know and I hope it helps. If you need any more information please contact us and we will be happy to assist where we can.
